SYR:PAPAV:A: is syropus papaveris albi, a syrup that is made with the fresh petals of the white or opium poppy, Papaver somniferum. Although this plant gives us some very powerful drugs, such as morphine and heroin, this is a very mild preparation that would have been used in making expectorants for treating coughs.
