Milling Barley for Milling Barley Wholemeal Flour

Our Whole Grain Milling Barley for Milling into Wholemeal Flour. This can be sifted to remove some bran if required.
is a spring barley that is usually sown in March and harvested in August here at Brow Farm in West Lancashire. Its short growing season means we don't have to use pesticide's, which is better for the farms wildlife that depends on the insects living in the fields to feed young.
Barley for milling produces a non-wheat flour made from grinding whole barley grain. It’s a popular alternative to wheat flour because, unlike many non-wheat flours, it contains some gluten. This obviously doesn’t make it a good choice for those with celiac’s, who cannot tolerate gluten, but it does mean that it is an excellent option for more conventional bakers looking to expand their skills by working with alternative flours.

Our Milling barley was grown last year on the fertile farm land of West Lancashire. It is then pre-cleaned and if needed dried to a moisture content of 14%. Then it is stored in large bins. When the barley is wanted for milling either by us at the farm in our stone mill or by you it is put though a cleaner were the dust is removed and the wheat is sifted. The whole wheat grains are then packed in bags ready to be shipped.
The grains can be purchased with a white storage bucket and lid with no extra shipping costs see drop down menu when ordering.
