The Show 1927 rare limited blu-ray - 4K restoration Tod Browning.

Tod Browning’s The Show 1927 extremely rare limited blu-ray - 4K restoration. Redwood Creek Films’ Kickstarter exclusive edition (2023). New restoration and soundtrack.

Synopsis : Cock Robin (John Gilbert) is the swaggering ballyhoo man of a sideshow known as the Palace of Illusions. The highlight of the show is a reenactment of Salome’s dance of the seven veils, replete with the beheading of Jokanaan. The performer portraying Salome (Renée Adorée) is in love with Cock Robin. Jealous, sinister The Greek (Lionel Barrymore) is determined to eliminate that competition.

Tod Browning is best known for directing creepy classics such as Freaks and Dracula, but before he made movies, he was a circus performer and carnival sideshow host. Perhaps that’s what makes the images in The Show so compelling. This semi-salicious silent drama starring John Gilbert, is both a great bit of fun as well as a great example of Browning’s skill in visual storytelling. It’s a gorgeously shot film with plenty of the offbeat elements that have made Browning a lasting figure in cult cinema.
