FEATURING:

1. KING EDWARD VIII AND HIS THREE BROTHERS
FOLLOW THE GUN CARRIAGE

The Duke of Kent,
the Duke of York,
King Edward,
and the Duke of Gloucester
walking behind the coffin on the way
from Sandringham to Wolferton -
their faces showing clearly the marks of their grief
and of the period of intense stress
through which they had passed.

The Duke of York,
it should be mentioned,
although now heir-presumptive to the throne,
does not become Prince of Wales as not a dew may suppose,
this title being reserved solely
for the eldest living son of a sovereign.

2. THE START OF THE JOURNEY
FROM KING'S CROSS TO WESTMINSTER HALL

The coffin,
with the Royal Standard for a pall
and bearing upon it the Imperial Crown
and a simple floral wraeth,
pictured as it was leaving the station en route
to Westminster for the lying-in-state;
passing through sorrowing crowds
for the most part clad in the deepest mourning.
