ICONIC EARLY 50s SWISS GILT-BRASS MANTEL / SHELF CLOCK

If you're seeking "best of class" to complement a mid-century modern interior, look no further.

This handsome timepiece is from my personal collection of clocks curated since 1972.  Commencing with apprenticeship to a European master clock and watchmaker through high school graduation, freshmen year of college and remainder of the 1970s, I sensitively restored clocks of all types; opening service and sales showrooms in the western suburbs of Chicago.  After a 35 year "sabbatical" pursuing an appraisal career, I've returned to the venerable trade.

Angelus along with Swiss competitors Imhof, Looping and Luxor manufactured the best post WWII jeweled lever alarm, desk and shelf clocks.  This is a premier example.

Machined of solid brass with satin brushed and polished gold finish.  Wide stepped and canted base relief cast with dramatic waves and scrolls.  Rectangular case with thick beveled crystal, matte silvered dial with bold applied Roman numerals and elongated markers, delicate hands easily read at a distance.  High-grade eight-day movement with 15-jewel lever escapement.

The clock presents handsomely and is in fine operating order.

impressive 5.25" high, 9" wide, 1.9" deep
3.27 lbs.

NOTE:  I completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed the movement in waterless solutions, checked for wear, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oil.  Mainspring was removed from the barrel, cleaned and lubricated with grease.  Hands, dial, crystal and the case were cleaned. Meticulous restoration should provide reliable operation for years. Skilled labor cost for professional overhaul of comparable clocks averages $300.

Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details.  I'm available to answer any and all questions / concerns.
