The coffee plant in the Tenom district is said to have been introduced by the British colonists (British North Borneo Company/SBUB) in 1926. This plant was opened on an area of ​​300 hectares in the Sapong Estate, Tenom. In order to increase production, laborers from China of Hakka and Cantonese descent were brought in as a workforce. At that time, the cultivated coffee plants were from the Arabica type of coffee.


One of the factory is Yit Foh Coffee was established since 1960 by Mr.Yong Loong Vun. It first began with its oldest and one of the most famous coffee factory in Sabah. Traditional techniques make yit Foh coffee special than others.
