**** STEAMPUNK PEN BODY ****
This is a handmade bolt action ballpoint pen made by Placid Crafts. With the bolt up the ink is retracted into the pen, with the bolt down the ink is out and the pen is ready to write. The Hardware on this pen has a Gun Metal finish. The pen is 5-1/2" long. I would consider this a standard diameter pen because the pen body is about 1/2" and the top is Hex shaped (Nut Shaped). This pen is loaded with a Pressurized Fisher #SPR4, Black Ink Medium point ink cartridge. This series of our pens has the popular Steampunk look that gets all the second looks. / #SP25
The standard Fisher “SPR Series” Refills were developed for NASA and have been used on EVERY Space Shuttle mission both American and Russian. They are hermetically sealed with a specially formulated thixotropic ink and pressurized to about 35 PSI. They are the only refills that will write at any angle because they do not rely on gravity.
About our Steampunk Series Pens:
The body of a steampunk pen is built on a brass tube. The tube is wrapped with a metal sheet, either bright silver or copper. Then the patches are cut into various sizes and shapes and marked to look like rivets all the way around the patch before being applied to the pen body. At this point the body can be left bright or a black stain can be applied and then wiped off so that it stays in the markings on the body. Then the body is placed in a mold and an epoxy style acrylic like substance is poured over the body and put in a pressure pot at 50 psi until the acrylic hardens. Then it is cut to the proper length and diameter then shaped to fit the hardware. From there it is sanded polished and buffed to a nice finish. About Placid Crafts:
Placid crafts specializes in handmade pens both conventional handmade and their signature metal series pens. These are made on a metal lathe form solid metal round stock blanks; these are made from Rebar, Aluminum, Brass, and Copper. These are drilled out to 3/8” and a brass tube glued in to mount the hardware to. The Rebar is lightly cleaned on a wire wheel and sprayed with a clear coat to protect the steel from rusting. The other metal pens are turned to the proper size and the sanded for a smooth surface. These pen bodies are not sealed or coated. They will patina as each type of metal will. They will get darker as they age and the patina gives them the antique look that is so popular right now.
