QA:Why would the OS version on my original SSD be updated before removing it?

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Before the original SSD is removed, the host MAC must be updated to macOS 10.13 High Sierra (or 10.14 Mojave or 10.15 Catalina).

Why should I update the OS version on my original SSD before I remove it?

The macOS 10.13 High Sierra, 10.14 Mojave, 10.15 Catalina versions include an EFI firmware update on the motherboard to detect PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSDs. The EFI firmware from macOS 10.12 S. ierra, Mac OS X or older versions can only work with original PCIe 2.0 AHCI SSDs. The firmware version changes with system updates and stays on the motherboard even when the SSD is removed.

Internet Recovery

Insert the new SSD directly into the Mac. Boot and press Command Option-R to connect to the WiFi. This will load the latest version of the OS Utilities. Select "Hard Drive Utility" from "macOS Utilities" and delete the new SSD. Select "Reinstall macOS" from "macOS Utilities", follow the steps and wait for the installation.
