Description
Official Commemorative / Participation Medal, 15th Commonwealth Games, Victoria, British Columbia, 1994, in its original box. I would say that this example was in close to mint condition, but please take a detailed look at my photos and form your own opinion of its grade. The box is in good condition too.
Made from Bronze, Diameter 51 mm, Thickness 4 mm, Weight 57.3 grams, Mintage ???, Produced by Birks of Canada.
The obverse side features the Commonwealth Games symbol: a crown with the Commonwealth Games initials under it, surrounded by a pentagonal chain, which represents the Commonwealth's presence in the five Continents. The word "COMMEMORATIVE" appears above and below the chain and around the periphery is the English and French legend "XV Commonwealth Games 1994 XV Jeux du Commonwealth / Victoria Canada" . The reverse has the Spirit of Nations figure, created by Coast Salish artist Richard Krentz. This figure "stands on the world, holds a baby, and breathes the breath of life. The long, flowing hair represents the world's oceans and rivers connecting all nations." To the left and above is the legend "Spirit of Nations / L'Esprit des nations".
