BUZZ RICKSON'S Lot No. BR15330 Type N-3 “REED PRODUCTS INC.” XXL JACKET OLIVE

Description

The Type N-3 is a cold-weather jacket adopted for US Air Force crew members around 1948. It is designed for temperatures ranging from -10。C to -30。C, classified as the "Heavy Zone." The N-3 model was derived from the cotton B-9 and B-11 jackets that were used during World War II, but beginning with this N-3, the outer shell was changed to nylon fabric. It features a wool-pile insulated construction sandwiched between the nylon outer shell and nylon lining, providing a smooth and comfortable fit that significantly improves mobility. The N-3 has a longer length compared to the N-2, which was developed during the same period, and it includes waist adjuster cords to prevent wind penetration. Both the Type N-3 and N-2 jackets adopted raglan sleeves, which were not common in previous designs, emphasizing mobility and functionality. Notably, the N-3 features a large hood that can be used even when wearing a helmet. The hood is lined with luxurious sheepskin shearling and, when fully closed with the front zipper, covers the face completely, preventing direct exposure to outside air. The coyote fur trim on the hood not only prevents snow from entering but also ensures good visibility. basic design of the N-3 has been widely used in civilian cold-weather garments, demonstrating its high level of perfection and influence in the industry.
