1:48 Scale Figure “Kelly” for Dioramas, Models, and Monogram / Revell B-17 Kits

Kelly is named in honor of a real person, who was associated with the airport where I worked and learned to fly.

This 3D PLA filament print is available unfinished, or with a coating (gold, silver, or hammered bronze).

There are two different sizes:   1:48, and the smaller Revell 1:48 scale.  The photos show the difference.  In creating a motorized engine for the Revell model, it appears to me that it the model is a little underscale.  So, I offer the smaller and more compatible size as "Revell 1:48".  In the photos, you can see an original Revell aircrew with the B-17 "El Lobo" in the background for reference, along with the two different Kelly's.

Why Figures Are Included In Dioramas and Models

When creating 3D models, the builder can help viewers understand the scale of the piece by including something that is instantly recognizable; a human figure, for example.  This is a 3D filament print, and will require finishing because of the support structures.  A pair of tweezers, small knife, and sandpaper will be useful in cleaning up the print.  PLA is receptive to a wide range of coatings and paint.

Kelly is a Women’s Airforce Service Pilot, or W.A.S.P. one of the 1,100 women who worked during World War II as civ ilian contractors in the war effort.   Their duties included ferrying aircraft, target towing, and transport.   39 were lost in the line of duty.  After long delay, the value of their service and the sacrifices they endured were recognized in 1977; they were finally granted Veteran status, including the right to be buried at Arlington, and awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.  While Rosie the Riveters proved that women could work in factories as well as the men, these ladies proved that women could fly anything in the inventory.

In addition to the two sizes, the figure is available in gold, silver, hammered bronze, and unfinished.
