The legend of Fafnir is one that has inspired countless authors in European history, most notably J.R.R. Tolkien and the character of Smaug from THE HOBBIT. Now, Fafnir is featured as the first release of the new Germania Beasts Series from the private Germania Mint.

Round Highlights:

Fafnir originates in Icelandic mythology as a dwarf with a powerful arm and fearless soul. After an encounter with the course of another dwarf’s ring and gold, Fafnir is turned into a dragon that then guards the house of his father. Eventually, Fafnir is slain by Sigurd.

In the new Germania Beasts Series, Fafnir is featured in a variety of silver round versions. The traditional BU has the highest mintage at 25,000 in total. A 2 oz silver round with ruthenium plating has a mintage of just 999 rounds, and this impressive 2-in-1 set has a low mintage of only 500 silver round sets.

Fafnir’s body is featured on the obverse of the 2020 2 x 1 Germania Beasts Fafnir Silver Round. Fafnir’s body is curled up as he prepares to defend the gold. His forked tongue emerges from his mouth and you can see his rows of razor-sharp teeth.

The other end of Fafnir’s body is shown in the reverse design of 2020 Germania Beasts Fafnir Silver Rounds. The imagery on this side includes his lower body and tail as his figure wraps around the Germania Mint logo at the center of the design.
