Tips and  useful information ref IR REMOTE CONTROLS ( NOT RADIO RF TYPES )

IF YOU HAVE A FIRE REMOTE THAT looks to be in  GOOD CONDITION BUT DOES NOT APPEAR TO WORK....

here is a way to prove the remote is good or not.

first, put a good new battery or batteries in the fire remote.

Take your working.... TV remote ( something you know is working )

turn on the camera on your mobile phone

point tv remote at the camera and press each of the buttons on the remote, you need to test each button, you will see the infra red led flash on the phone screen ( you can't see it with the naked eye )

If you see nothing, then you may have a mobile phone that has infra red filters, so try with  a friends phone, different make or model ! ( remember, you know the TV remote works, so it must be the wrong type of mobile phone for this test )

Once you have a phone that shows the infra red working on your good tv remote,
your ready to test your fire remote in the same way.

If your fire remote DOES flash on the camera screen, that indicates the remote is GOOD and your fire is faulty,
so a new remote is not going to solve your problem.

if your fire remote does NOT flash blueish/ purple light on the camera phone, then you can be pretty sure you have a FAULTY fire remote, or maybe the battery you fitted was no good, check again if in doubt.

Common  Questions  and  Answers

Q: How do I reset my electric fireplace remote?

A:  The reset of your remote controller to your electric fire does not always need to be done, many fires and remotes require no reset, learning modes, synchronisation or pairing,  even when you replace the batteries or buy a replacement remote. However, there are some types of fire that will require preparation and will be described step by step in the electric fire user book which will be specific to each fire or model, as there is no standard method that works with all fires and all remotes.

Q: Why does my Electric fireplace remote not work?

A: There may be an assumption in that question , that says the electric fire is fully working and therefore the remote may be faulty, but beware, do not assume that the fire is always fully working, just because you tried the remote and did not get the result you expect.  Try the remote testing method  ( see details above ), which will help you to determine if your remote controller is good or bad, then you will be a step closer to knowing why the fire or the remote is not working.

Q: Can I get a replacement remote controller for my electric fireplace?

A: This will depend on a number of factors, such as the age of the electric fire, the manufacturer and availability of new remote controls.  For example, some new fires are sold with no spare parts available at all, with a return and replacement or refund warranty, but no spare remotes. Other electric fires are sold with very limited supply of spare parts and remotes with availability over a short period of time. Some manufacturers are very good and will not only have stock of spare remotes but will make them available for many years, but in all cases you may need to do your research very carefully to locate the correct remote for your specific version of electric fire, much like ordering a engine part for your car, with the make, model, year and serial number. See the data label found on the back or sides of  most electric fires.

Q: How long will an electric fires last ?

A: Electric fires will have a variety of guarantee and warranty periods specific to each company varying between 1 and 10 years with a lifetime usage of the fire that can extend to 20 years and beyond according to the brand, how it is used and how it is maintained. Also consider, how  many times the technology of fires improves, the home decor and fashions may change over the years which will often prompt an upgrade to the room decoration and electric fire before its end of useful service.

Q: Why does my electric fire make  beeping sounds ?

A: This will vary according to the type of fire you have and the specific answers in the user manual, however, example reasons are because the remote control batteries are discharged  and need new replacements, the  remote control signal receiver on the fireplace may be faulty. As fires become much smarter equipment with more sensors, the more beeping sounds are likely to alert you to things you will need to see in your user manual.  beeping can  indicate on some fires that items have been placed on top, too close, or that too much dust has blocked the vents which triggers overheat sensors, so keeping the electric fire free of fluff and dust as per the user instructions, is very good practice.

Q: Can I get a universal remote controller for my electric fire ?

A: Electric fires are made by many companies who in turn have many brands and versions which also get updated and improved on a regular basis, so there are many types of remote controls in much the same as way as there are for televisions. Universal remotes for electric fires are not made. However, there may be an exception with our " Master Remotes" where several types of remote have been combined into a single remote controller because the original remotes are no longer made. In addition there are some very popular brands of electric fires which are available in many versions and will share a common remote control, not because it is a universal remote, but just very popular types of fire from large manufacturers.

Q: I have seen a remote that looks like mine / or  has the same name, so will it work ?

A: When you see a remote that looks EXACTLY like your remote, most often it will indeed be the same, but not always. Sometimes there will be a tiny change on the button wording / symbols  or even an extra button that can easily be overlooked, so those will be different. That difference may not be critical and the remote may do all you need,  which in the absence of any alternatives will make you happy. Some remotes will, however, look very alike and not work with your fire at all. So, check every button and symbol or wording on a remote, then if an exact match is found, you will be pretty confident that it will work, but if you see a subtle or minor difference, then it is worth spending some time to check in more detail. Yes remotes can be tricky and rarely have any useful ref number on the remote or in your user manual  to help you.

Q: Can I get a multi function remote for my Tv,  feature electric fire, room mood lighting and automatic curtains ?

A: Well actually, yes you can, but it will not be off the shelf, ready to buy.  Remotes like this will be bespoke orders,  made to control equipment in your room or even a hotel room but with a important consideration, which is the number of these remotes required. If this is for your home, you most likely need one remote or perhaps two ( a spare), but will be at a unit cost much more expensive than an order for a  development of apartments, holiday chalets, caravans or hotels, where the number required will reduce the unit cost.  The remotes will not interfere with each other because the IR signal technology is designed to work with the remote pointing directly at the equipment and will not travel through walls around corners or great distances.  There is also the benefit that such a bespoke remote will be of no value to other people and it can be personalised with a logo and or name which aids retention in the place they belong.

Thank you very much, Remotes Master.
