Kasli craftsmen
have become famous throughout the world for their elegant and high-quality cast
iron. They poured black lace from cast iron, similar to that embroidered by
women's hands. The plant was founded in 1746 by
the Ural merchant Y.R. Korobkov and until the beginning of the 19th century
produced only high-quality iron. On the eve of the War of 1812, iron casting
was added to the main production: first cannonballs, grenades and buckshot, and
then dishes, tombstones and floor slabs. The presence of high-quality metal and
molding sands with unique properties allowed the plant to begin producing iron
art castings in 1843.
