Description

A small medal or medallion in Art Deco style, commemorating the 1948 Summer Olympic Games held in London. Though this is not obviously an Olympic medal, the same obverse design was used in prototypes for the London 1948 participation medal and in other 1948 Olympic commemoratives [see Gadoury's book Olympic Medals and Coins for details]. I would judge this example to be in very fine (VF) condition or better. Please take a good look at my photographs and form your own opinions of its grade.

Made from a white metal (Silver-plated Bronze?), Diameter 26 mm, Weight 10.3 grams, Medallists John Pinches of London.

The obverse has an art deco scene with a naked male athlete bending down and touching the ground with his right hand (as if about to throw a discus?), while holding a laurel wreath in his left. In the background is a procession of other athletes, with each successive row striking a different pose. The reverse has a wreath of oak branches surrounding an empty central area. There is no legend on either side.

Shipping is by tracked mail (Royal Mail International Signed-For, or Recorded Delivery in the UK). All my medals are guaranteed genuine. Please see also my Olympic Participation and other sports Medals in my eBay shop. If you purchase more than one of these you only need to pay the shipping costs for a single medal.

We aim to dispatch within one working day of receiving your payment. Please check out my feedback ratings or contact me if you have any doubts.
