Original Elisha Kent Kane MD engraving by John Sartain. Sartain (1808-1897) was an English born American artist who pioneered mezzotint engraving in the US. Consider the best engraver of his time. Engraving is over 150 years old.




Kane was a United States Navy medical officer and Arctic explorer.




Condition: no foxing just some toning around the edges but with a mat and black frame it would look great. Great condition see photos

Great piece of history. We got these while we were living in Philadelphia. Bought at an antique store and always thought we would open a store to sell prints but now retired so just selling. Have over 200 engravings. Have sat in a box for over 30 years.
