The Australian Silver Kookaburra series from the Perth Mint began in 1990 and is the longest-running bullion program from the mint. Each year there is a different kookaburra design adding to their collectibility.

Kookaburras are large terrestrial kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea.  They are best known for their unmistakable call which sounds like loud echoing human laughter.
