Large 7 1/4" x 9 1/4" vintage 1950s photo of an Antique Shotgun Booby Trap Seized by Conservation Officers of the North Bay, Ontario Department of Lands and Forests.

This photo was found among a small archive of items all associated with the North Bay Headquarters at Trout Lake. The associated items included various photos, a few books, some Department magazines and a folder of North Bay Nugget newspaper clippings dating from the early to latter 1950s containing accounts of Conservation Officer activities across the district administered from North Bay.

Among the happenings were newspaper accounts of game violations and associated illegal activity. None of the clippings specifically mentioned or pictured the shotgun seen in the photo. However, the inference seems clear that the photo was an item seized by one of the conservation officers who worked the hinterlands to the north of Trout Lake. Perhaps it might have been a photo taken as evidence to prosecute a case. The imagination sort of runs wild wondering just what the intended use was for this setup. Would it have been used to bag wild game or guard something? Even in the 1950s that must have been an awfully old shotgun.

Condition; The photo size is 7 1/4" x 9 1/4". The photo finish is a very high gloss type. There is a half inch long tear at the bottom edge. At the right edge there is a crease and associated tear. The crease is an extension of the tear, it extends upwards on a vertical track keeping within a quarter inch or so of the right edge. The tear is roughly a quarter inch in length. The corner tips are worn and bruised.
