The Fall and Rise of Desert Bighorn Sheep in Arizona by Bill Hook and Raymond Lee (eds) not only reveals the natural history of Desert bighorns, but also episodes of hunting the elusive wild sheep including a story by Bob Housholder in which he describes his most memorable hunting season in which he guided 3 clients in southern Mohave County and all collected a ram including himself. He laments that the area where the hunts took place are now developed. David Brown relates his desert sheep hunt in the southwestern corner of the state that required a second attempt three years later because he failed to bag a ram during his first hunting trip. Fred Peters describes his successful hunt for a desert ram in the Kanab Canyon area of northern Arizona. Norman Mathews recalls his successful hunt in the Gila Mountains, and Jim McCasland describes his hunt for an exceptional trophy shot in the Kofa Mountains. There are three other accounts of ram hunts, including a successful bow hunt. Besides the hunting elements, there is a history of the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, and a record of management attempts in increase the size of the herds.
