We are pleased to offer this Original Antique Map c 1878 of Long Branch Graded School, Long Branch, NJ

This map is amazing not just for the beautiful pictorial image on front but also for what is printed on the reverse. This was a very progressive school, detailed in its origin, the people involved in establishing the school and the progressive nature of the planned education.  On front is a beautiful school with a traditional clock tower and weathervane.  Victorian people stroll the avenue and line the school steps.

There is a long writeup on back of this pictorial map. It tells the story of how this school was established in the community and names the people involved.  The planned education is also detailed and was quite progressive for the time.  This school featured a graded system with students expected to learn basic materials before passing to the next grade and expanding on their knowledge. In addition, the education is participatory rather than just having teachers recite and students parrot.  Most interesting, teachers were expected to teach students how to apply their learning in practical real-life ways.
