Captain Adams flew
in the SR-71 program for four years and accumulated about 350 to 400
hours in the BlackĀbird. He also piloted B-52 bombers during the Vietnam War,
logging 137 combat missions over Southeast Asia between the two aircraft.
In 1974 he set a world speed record
in the SR-71 Blackbird, flying from London to Los Angeles in 3 hours
and 47 minutes. The record still stands
