1948 FDC Gold Star Mothers of America Art Craft

This was canceled on September 21, 1964 in Washington DC.

According to the Smithsonian National Postal Museum:

This Gold Star Mothers Issue stamp features a gold star on a palm frond. It was issued to honor the mother of deceased members of the United States armed forces. The Gold Star Mothers Club was formed after World War One. The name comes from the custom of families of military personnel to hang up a Service Flag in their window: living service members were represented by a blue star, while those who had lost their lives were represented by a gold stars.
