The One Ring, also known as the Ruling Ring, the Master Ring, the Ring of Power, and Isildur's Bane, was one of the most powerful artifacts ever created in Middle-earth, and by far the most dangerous. It was crafted by the Dark Lord Sauron in the fire of Orodruin, also known as Mount Doom, during the Second Age. Sauron's intent was to enhance his own power and exercise control over the other Rings of Power, which had been made by Celebrimbor and his people with Sauron's assistance. In this way, Sauron hoped to gain lordship over the Elves and all other peoples of Middle-earth.
The Ring remained hidden in a riverbed for almost two and a half millennia until a Stoor named Déagol discovered it while on a fishing trip in TA 2463. His friend and cousin Sméagol stole the Ring and murdered Déagol. Sméagol was changed by the Ring’s influence over four and a half centuries into the creature known as Gollum. Gollum, after being exiled from his home, sought shelter deep beneath the Misty Mountains. There he and it remained for nearly five hundred years, until the Ring abandoned him and fell off his finger, landing on the floor of one of the tunnels. This is thought to be an example of one of the more noticeable powers of the Ring; the ability to change size at will. It also displays the fact that the Ring is sentient, having part of the spirit of Sauron inside it.

Hard wearing PVD Coatings are excellent decorative coatings to replace traditional electroplated and painted finishes such as gold plating as well as provide alternative colour finishes.
PVD Coatings are typically <1.5 micron thick and will not tarnish, chip, fade or corrode. e.g. PVD ‘gold titanium’ plating has extremely high hardness (10 – 20 times harder than gold) which provides excellent scratch and wear resistance compared to traditional decorative gold electroplating which is typically 0.5 microns thick. Although extremely hard, it is worth noting that the thickness of the PVD coating applied is however very important – very thin PVD coatings (0.01 microns) will also scratch.
It is also worth noting that PVD ‘gold titanium’ is not the same as PVD deposited gold coating
Thin decorative PVD coatings are typically deposited on top of stainless steel. The PVD coatings can also be applied directly to other materials such as titanium or nickel alloys. Decorative black coating as well as PVD Gold, PVD Brass, PVD Nickel and PVD Bronze.
Other coating colours are available. These provide highly scratch resistant finishes whilst maintaining the original surface texture of the product. This is a very attractive attribute of PVD coating, so the coated steel still has the same touch and feel of metal. Colour coating of steel using PVD achieves an excellent result - PVD Gold is a favoured colour for many high-end consumer and business products.
