Description

Scarce early KA-BAR fighting/hunting knife with the original leather sheath.

Measures about 9" with a 4 1/2" blade.

Stacked leather handle with aluminum pommel and guard.

As found condition, the knife was carried and used and the original owners initials (JEC) are carved into the butt of the pommel.  Could use a careful cleaning and the handle should be treated - I'll let the new owner use their preferred methods.  Nice tight pommel, guard, and bolster makes a firm knife - no wobble.

The very point of the tip is missing.  Spine is nice and smooth, no dings.  The pommel end red washer and the third leather washer from the pommel have tight splits and there are a few other minor dings to the leather.  The blade appears to have been sharpened several times and shows scratches and some minor discoloration.  Some minor discoloration where the ricasso meets the guard, especially on the unmarked side.  The trademark is an early two line "KA-BAR Olean, N.Y."

The sheath is in rough shape as shown in the pictures. The sheath is made from three pieces of leather stitched and riveted together, two larger identical pieces (that extend up to hold the knife to a belt) and a smaller piece that covers and holds the knife blade.  At the top of the sheath on one side the two pieces of leather that goes up to attach to the belt have been cut back.  I am unsure if it was customized to the owners preference or if it may have been damaged and removed, because the remaining part of the back of that back piece of leather is darkened, cracked, and deteriorating along the blade side (where it would lay against the leg when carried.)   The strap at the top that holds the handle to the sheath is missing.  The front of the sheath has some rub and light cracking with a cut into the leather.  It is stamped "KA-BAR" along the top.  Overall, it holds the knife and the remaining stitching is intact - the sheath displays well with a rugged look.
