figured walnut escritoire
DESCRIPTION
This is a very
attractive Queen Anne/ George I inlaid walnut escritoire. The moulded cornice
above a cushion-moulded frieze drawer, with a quarter-veneered and feather
banded fall front opening to reveal a writing surface with an arrangement of ebonised
and inlaid pigeon holes, dividers, and a central cupboard; all above three long,
crossbanded drawers, the whole raised on shaped bracket feet.

CONDITION
There are light marks,
knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use. There are some minor losses,
splits and repairs to the veneer, mainly confined to some chips to the veneer
around the feet on the left hand side and some splits to the veneer on the
inside of the fall front. The piece has a good colour, the joints are sound and
the drawers run smoothly. There is a key that works the fall front and the internal
cupboard door. Overall in very good condition for age.

Collection is expected
within seven days of purchase unless by prior arrangement and we reserve the
right to charge a storage fee for items not collected within this time frame.
We can usually arrange delivery with a third party courier on behalf of the
buyer. Typical costs are around £80 - £100 within mainland UK for an
average-sized chest of drawers and may take up to 14 days, unless an expediated
service is required. Costs will be higher for larger items and remote
locations. Although we do everything possible to ensure that items arrive
safely, we cannot be held responsible for damage incurred after items leave our
