19th Century Box Hamburg Guild 800 Silver Brahmfeld Gutruf 1840s

Mid-19th century German 800 silver rectangular form box with hinged lid, applied swing handle and four ball feet. The box has a lock, but there is no key. Under the bottom, there is an engraved inscription "A. Bartning". The box bears Hamburg goldsmiths' guild marks: Assay Master mark (the letter is illegible), "B&G" for Brahmfeld & Gutruf firm (worked since 1842), concession 44 mark.

This impressive box is 5" x 4" x 3 1/2", weighing 363.9 grams or 11.73 ozs Troy. It has very minor dents.

The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
