Roman Age of Chaos - Rise of the Thirty Tyrants 4-Coin Clear Box Set w COA

In the spring of A.D. 260, the Roman Emperor Valerian was taken prisoner by the Persian ”King of Kings“ after his defeat at Edessa. This humiliating capture, unprecedented in the long annals of Rome, ended Valerian’s reign, leaving his overmatched son Gallienus on the throne and a power vacuum in the Empire. Unwilling to bow to the new Augustus, armies in the more remote corners of the Empire elevated their local generals to the status of Emperor. During the ensuing eight years, a period of unimaginable chaos, the hapless Emperor sought to defend his dominions—in vain. The Historia Augusta gives account of the Thirty Tyrants—pretenders to the throne during the chaotic reign of Gallienus. This box contains coins of Gallienus and three of the 30 tyrants: Victorinus, Tetricus I, and Tetricus II.
