Edmund Berry Godfrey was a 17th-century
English jurist and magistrate remembered now for his mysterious death that
spurred an anti-Catholic fiasco in England. In 1678, Godfrey became involved
with Titus Oates and the Popish Plot. When the plans got out of hand, Godfrey
unexpectedly disappeared – whether it be of suicide or assassination, it is
unknown.
This rare first edition account of the
events surrounding Godfrey’s death and the Popish Plot are accompanied by a
full-page portrait frontispiece of Godfrey.
