Christkindlmarket is a traditional German American holiday market held in Chicago from November to December. Inspired by the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, which began in 1545, the Christkindlmarket Chicago brings a cherished German and European tradition with international flair and local charm to Chicago. Christkind is the namesake of the market and a beloved German tradition. She hands out gifts much like Santa Clause in the United States.  Chicago's largest open-air Christmas festival was first held 1996 and continues to be a cherished holiday tradition for Chicago today.
