Whitby Jet ?

DESCRIPTION This is a vintage beautiful black horseshoe & flower design pin brooch as shown. The age and the maker is unknown, it comes with no papers, box etc. I have no idea what this brooch is made from, the vendor purchased it as Whitby Jet 40 + years ago from a shop in Whitby. I am unable to check if this brooch is made from jet. I have scratched it on an unglazed stone and it leaves a brown / black mark as I have tried to show in photograph number five. Advice very welcome. A very beautiful, quality feeling brooch.

CONDITION  I will leave you to decide; please look at the photos carefully. I think the general condition is good used collectable for the age. As you can see in the photos, there are general light user, handling and storage marks etc. The fixing hook as been bent slightly so the pin will not come out / open. The fixing could be straightened but I have left it as diy stands for destroy it yourself when I do anything !😻
