Daimler Dart SP250 Stainless Steel Magnetic Sump Plugs


The original Daimler sump plug was made of brass. Perfect in the 1950s as they don't suffer from rusting or deterioration from weather but after 50 years of use they can easily start to become damaged and problematic to remove and reuse.
Having rebuilt untold SP250 engines with damaged and worn sump plugs I wanted to produce a new modern replacement for Daimler Dart owners which allowed for the end user to use easily, while also looking more period correct when fitted to the sump and providing the benefits of a stainless fitting for length of life as well as the more modern idea of a magnetised plug to capture anything nasty floating around in the oil. We took a great amount of care and time to produce an item we feel fits perfectly with the age and style of the car.
Not only would a standard bolt of large enough size look out of place compared to the original flange sump plug used by Daimler; but because of the size of the sump plug should a normal bolt be used, it would require a very large 32mm+ sized spanner or socket to fit its head as a flange is required to make a seal to prevent an oil leak. That is extra cost for an item which most people would not have any other use for other than removing and refitting the sump plug. Not only that but it would also not be in keeping for the period look of the engine which many owners feel is important especially so for concourse.

We manufacture our plugs in house using solid Stainless Steel to provide a corrosion resistant finish ideal for use where exposed to weather.
We actively chose to design our plugs to utilise a traditional flange style design rather than simply replacing it with a standard bolt to 
retain a more period correct appearance, but equally importantly to allow for the use of a 15/16" (24mm) spanner or socket commonly found in large spanner and socket sets. This would prevent the need of the purchaser to buy an extra large spanners or socket at great cost just to be able to use it.
Each sump plug is mounted with a powerful 5/8" rare earth magnet to attract any ferrous particles suspended within the engine oil.
Our unique design also does NOT rely on purely adhesive or inferior rivets (which can become loose over time and risk losing the magnet inside the engine) to secure the magnet to the plug; but rather a fine thread 3/4" long countersunk bolt secured tightly with Loctite 272 threadlock which prevents magnet detachment whilst in service or being cleaned; hence a far superior design.
All sump plugs also come complete with a bonded Dowty washer to offer a modern reusable seal. Alternatively an original style copper sealing washer can be used if you wish.
