An intriguing blue-coloured miners lamp by Hailwood & Ackroyd of Morley, Leeds. Following the electrification of the mines, the company found itself with vast quantities of surplus stock and saw an opportunity following the outbreak of World War 2 to adapt their lamps for use by Air Raid Wardens when marking gas leaks during air raids. Being fitted with blue glass, the lamps were difficult to spot by enemy aircraft flying overhead. Reputedly around 100,000 such lamps were produced, selling at 3/6d.  26cm high.

Condition:  In very good, used condition, the steel components showing a couple of very minor indentations and only light surface rust/oxidation, and the brass maker's plaque with light wear from polishing. Glass in good order.
