Great vintage WW2 era brooch, by Elzac of California, depicting a lady's face or head made of ceramic, glazed, with hand painted features, with lucite and braided raffia, measuring 3-1/2" x 1-3/4" overall, unmarked, there is some light penciled letters on the back, looks like M.W.F., but probably the owner's initials, Probably from their series:  "Victims of Fashion", condition:  overall crazing of the glazed finish, typical for Elzac ceramic jewelry, some wear to the painted details, previously owned, from a local estate.

Backstory of Elzac:  the history of Elzac jewelry began in 1940 when Eliot and Ruth Handler, alongside with their partner Zachary Zemby, founded their company Elzac (Eliot + Zachary). Headquartered in Los Angeles, the company used innovative materials such as ceramic, lucite, fur, feathers, cloth, and wood in unusual, whimsical ways. Elzac California Jewelry ceased to exist by 1947.
