PLEASE ASK ME FOR THE VIDEOS OF IT RUNNING/DRIVING 701-471-3376

Up for sale is my 1970 Chevelle SS396.  Very nice car.  Very unique car, I mean everyone and their mom has a SS454 but how often do you see a SS396, not that often.  On top of that, most SS's you see are black, orange, red, blue, but how many of them are Green Mist ?  Again not many.  This car other then a repaint (most likely because it faded) and maintenance type things is believed to be completely unrestored. It just gets better and better.

So here is the story behind the car, this has been in the area for a number of years, by number of years I mean 30 years or better. A older fella owned it, passed away unexpectedly and the car was put in the estate sale.  The guy I bought it from went to this estate sale, I don't know if he went there just to bid on the car or if went to bid on something else and just happened to be there.  Anyway he ended up being the high bidder and took it home to show his wife and went surprise.  This guy owned it for roughly 10 years.  It was rarely driven, just simply because he has a very large farm. So if its 80 degree's and not a cloud in the sky, he was pretty much committed to be out working. So the car didn't leave the heated garage very often, I mean a few times a year he and his wife would drive it to supper, but thats about it.  I sell trailers for a living, this gentlemen came in looking at trailers, and somehow this car came up in conversation.  He actually had a 1957 Chevrolet and this Chevelle.  I ended up buying both of them.

As far as the paint and body, its gorgeous.  I'm sure it was repainted if nothing else, because I'm sure this original color faded easily.  I'm not a body man, but when you look down the side its straight. I don't see any bubbles, I don't see any waves, all I see is perfectly straight panels and amazingly sparkly paint.  Its very nice. I believe the chrome, trim, stainless, etc all to be original and may have a flaw here or there but I don't see any.  The body does have one flaw (which for the buy it now price I will have a local restoration shop repair). Alot of people take a classic car to a car show, then drag out lawn chairs, coolers, etc and bs with their buddies while sitting right beside their car. On the drivers quarter there are some marks, which the only logical thing in my mind is from just what I mentioned, sitting beside the car bsing with friends.  There are some marks by the tail light (as horrible as this sounds I would say someone unloaded folded chairs and rested them against the car while unloading other things).  There is a small mark about door handle height (again I'm assuming a chair got closer to the car then they realized)  There is also a mark down low about cooler height (again I'm assuming someone slid a cooler behind their folding chair and it rubbed the car)  There is also a mark above the quarter window (again if I had to guess I would say a purse was set there).  Again all of this is on the drivers quarter panel. None of the marks show up in pictures, all you see is shiny paint, so there is no point trying to send closeup pictures. But again for my buy it now price all this will be repaired by a local restoration shop.

As far as the interior I believe it to be completely original. It looks really really nice, but not perfect as in its all new parts.  So that tells you how nice and how preserved the car is, I mean how many 1970 Chevelles can boast having the original interior that looks very nice, not a whole lot of them.  As far as "flaws" in the interior, the door panels do have some minor things here and there (you can see some minor ripples in the pictures). If you want to be super picky there may be little things in the plastic dash. There may be a bit of corrosion on a screw or bolt, but honestly the interior is really nice.  The two worst flaws are the rear sail panels (right above the rear shelf) have some ripples.  Should be a easy fix, just remove them from the car, peel back the upholststery, spray some new adhesive on the panel, and pull the upholstery down tight. Just like that and they should look new.  The other worst flaw in the interior is the headliner, it looks great, but there a couple mouse holes. For my buy it now price I will repair the sail panels and replace the headliner.

The trunk is super clean, original 1970 splatter paint is in it, again how many 1970 chevelles can boast that ?  Not many.  The original trunk mat is furry, as in the material it starting to come apart. So there is a new trunk mat, but I have the original if you want it.

Most rare muscle cars have the original numbers matching engine/transmission sitting in the garage and another engine/transmission installed in their place.  Simply because if you put a rod through the original numbers matching block while having a bit to much fun that kinda ruins your day.  Well this car is one of those, where a replacement, a burn rubber, drag race your buddy and his 1970 Cuda, having tons of fun replacement motor/transmission is installed in place of the original. So the replacement engine is a 1972 402 that was rebuilt to stock 1970 SS396 Specs.  When it comes to replacement motors, some guys replace the complete motor and some guys just throw the original block under the bench and reuse the original exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, carburetor, etc. Basically stuff that wouldn't get hurt if the motor blew up.  This is one of those, where the original parts that wouldn't be damaged if the engine blew up were reused. This car has lots of horsepower, a great sounding idle, and is a ton of fun to drive.  It has a Turbo 400 automatic and the stock rearend.  I know your dying for the numbers so here they are, please keep in mind that with casting numbers a 6 can easily look like a 8, etc. So if something doesn't look right please keep that in mind.

Block (currently in the car)   3999290  cast date 1 7 72
exhaust          3916178 and 3909870   ( the date codes are on the back side, I haven't pulled the exhaust to check the dates)
Alternator    1100 3  (the middle/end numbers are hard to read)   Date 9L12
Intake          3855287  Date J89
Carb            7040200  E0  EE
I haven't pulled the valve covers to check casting numbers, but I can if that is a deal breaker.

Transmission (currently in the car)
482
72-CA 58747

Rearend
stamping  CCW 012 3B1    Cast date L30 9
casting 3969278

I'm sure I'll get a ton of emails asking if this is a Real SS,  I do not have the window sticker or build sheet so it cannot be verified that way, however please read this article by Motor Trend. It is a great article with lots of pictures.  This car has all the correct equipment. It also has the "L" on the data plate.

https://www.motortrend.com/features/dont-fooled-spot-real-1970-chevelle-ss/?galleryimageid=23bd3464-93e6-4598-9566-fc4e81f0496e

Here is the Data Plate

ST  70    13637          KAN 832216  BO
TR 795     45          G    PT
      03B      00103        L

Here is how it decodes
70  =   1970
13637  =  Malibu/2 door sport coupe  (this shows the basic body type, there was not a specific code to differentiate for the SS. the SS was a option added on to basic body type)
KAN  =  Built Kansas City MO
795  = interior metallic dark green
45 =  paint color green mist
G = green vinyl top
03B =  built the second week in March
00103 =  I haven't found a reference for this
L  =  SS option

The above should be correct but please decode it for yourself and check.

I can take closeups or pictures of this that and everything.  If your looking for something specific just ask.

At the estate sale the original block/transmission were sold seperate from the car (the auctioneer didn't realize what they were and the farmer who bought the car didn't either).  Hence I do not have them, but the Farmer I bought the car from thinks he knows who has them. I'm trying to acquire both of them, of course if I'm able to acquire them they will go with the car.

This is a super rare car and I really don't want to sell it, but I'm losing some storage and I don't really have a choice.

I will accept cash when you pick it up or a bank wire transfer. I expect to be paid in full within 48 hours after the auction ends.

I deal with truckers on a daily basis for work. If you need help with transportation just ask
