Russ #118 in "SAVANNAH SODAS, one of the 1859 series in his bottles.

"John Ryan was the Man in the bottling business in Savannah, He was born in 1826, in NewYork and moved to Savannah, Ga. in 1852. He started manufacturing Soda Water in 1852 on the corner of West Broad & Bay. He named his business Excelisor Bottling Works.

"JOHN RYAN ~ ~ SAVANNAH GEO. 1859. XX PHILADELPHIA PORTER". This porter is the only Brand you see on the Ryans and other bottlers, must have been good!!

In 1852 the year he opened his trade on corner of Bay & Montgomery Street. You will notice the ad John Ryan ran in the paper in 1854 seeking his bottles back.

A dated pontil Ryan has not been found, the 1852 dated bottles is when he started in business, then every seven years he dated them.
