This photo shows Jimmy Armstead, and I think he is wearing the uniform of Louisville Municipal college. The writing on the back says "Jimmy Armstead Halfback Excellent Passer, Runner & Kicker, and is stamped "Louisville Defender." I believe this is a Type 1 photo.
Mr. Armstead was a star football player for the college while he was also playing baseball in the Negro leagues in 1938 and 1939 for the Indianapolis ABCs and St. Louis Stars. In 1940 he played for the Baltimore Elite Giants, and ended his career with the Philadelphia Stars in 1949.
The photo originally came from the personal collection of J. Leonard Mitchell, who played in the Negro Leagues in the 1920s and then was an organizer of the Louisville Black Colonels in 1939.
