Antique French gilt metal wax seal in the form of a snarling dog. Beautifully modeled and fully dimensional. Depicted with mouth set in a snarl, teeth bared and ears back, this loyal hound is ready to defend its owner! The matrix bears a sealed envelope below the words La Fidelité. Faithful. Symbolic of the dog is its devoted loyalty and faithfulness to its owner, and in this case ready to defend the contents of a very important letter. In overall good antique condition, with general wear commensurate with age and use. Measures 1 1/4" length x 1/2" diameter matrix base.
