The front design showcases Una and the Lion, the series’ theme. It was designed by Jody Clark, who found inspiration in William Wyon’s Una and the Lion design for the Royal Mint’s previous coin series.
Clark’s design is a landscape-orientated image, an innovation in the Royal Mint’s bars. It displays Una and her loyal lion, overlapping a decorated pattern used as a backdrop, and the words “DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS,” which translates to “May God direct my steps,” engraved at the bottom. This text was featured on the original design of the Una and the Lion coinage minted by the Royal Mint.
