'Sunday plebiscite' for Woburn, Massachusetts.Woburn, Massachusetts -- First "Sunday plebiscite" in America was held here April 24, with more than 4500 voters called by Mayor William E. Kane, the plebiscite brought rejection of Kane's pet project, a lion cage in which tipsy drivers where to be paraded. Voters, however, approved Kane's plan to "liquidate" unnecessary teachers, firemen and policemen. Photo shows: A young man is reading one of the sample ballots posted on the city hall.Photo measures 8 x 6inches. Photo is dated 04-25-1938.
