I know my pedals,30 yrs as a pro, I can say this..i compared it to three other $200-300 really good Boutique overdrives, the Iron suits me perfectly. The Pedal is exactly what u want for low,med or higher gain.. I also use a Greenchild Mr. Boost,as my main tone. It is very transparent, like slamming the amp w volume, that’s it. But when I want classic rock, AC/DC perfect, cranked up Marshall iconic arena rock bliss?... PETTYJOHN IRON. Period. ..i love old TS9's..as a boost. I did this for 25 years..until recently , I discovered some American pedal builders with incredible ears, I purchased over 25-30 drive pedals, all the trendy ones, and made videos, and listened to the tones w headphones for weeks..over and over.. my conclusion: If u want that perfectly EQ'd heavy guitar tone,in one pedal..This is it. great low & highs, not overly compressed, not noisy... rugged and a bit heavyweight, amazing looks..cool,amp type jewel lite instead of a regular LED is nice,as is the metal logo badge..all the room taken up by cosmetics, u couldve had a dual footswitch pedal or just made the enclosure smaller. But marketing is important these days, i guess, the name Chime drew me in, but I found a deal on the Ion,and grabbed it. and it sounds perfect to me. More compressed than my Boost, but sometimes u need a touch of creaminess on your openness (If that makes sense to u) These guys got the recipe perfect. If you want to take a risk, believe me, I’ve done the research, wasted money and Time on pedals I’ve rejected,or returned. Don’t go through all that, just buy the IRON for arena rock sustain that feels like you’re a rock n roll God every time u hit a chord. It has a few knobs to dial in, and sounds a little Marshallish, but when dialed in, it’s a solid choice.
