In the Footsteps of Minolta’s Finest Macro
Lenses
Newest Model w/ Focus Hold, Limiter
Switch
and Circular Aperture
Near Mint Condition
In this listing is a Sony
Alpha 50mm f/2.8 Macro lens that is capable of a 1:1 life size image
reproduction. (S/N 02452xx)
This Sony model has the same
optical formula and design as the highly regarded legacy Minolta Maxxum 50mm
macro lenses. Only the updated cosmetic styling is different. If you are
looking for the latest model in new showroom condition at a used eBay price,
here it is.
This Sony Alpha mount lens
will require an adapter for use on Sony E mount camera bodies.
This macro lens is in
fantastic near mint condition
with just a few light marks to the barrel and some very minor paint loss to the
“2.8/50 Macro” badge on the barrel.
The optics are pristine. Front
and rear glass have no scratches, blemishes or marks. Inside, the optics are
crystal clear and fungus/dust free.
For faster
focus, this model incorporates a Focus Limiter Switch and a Focus Hold button
not seen on the original vintage model. A circular aperture renders a smoother,
nice background (bokeh).
The 8-pin mount is unmarked,
and the rubber grip and focus ring are clean and unworn as well.
Mechanically, the focus
action is smooth and deliberate and the aperture is oil free and snappy. The
focus hold button and limiter switch both work perfectly.
The new Sony model listed for
$639 in Canada, and $599 at B+H in the US when it was available. Own it here
for a lot less!
Both caps included.
This is Sony’s
most inexpensive Macro lens that offers 1:1 magnification. If you want to try your hand at taking
beautiful close up photos of flowers, plants, small animals, your coin
collection or whatever, then this is the lens for you. You may have tried this
already with the built-in macro (1:4 magnification) that your zoom lens has,
(admittedly better than nothing!) but were less than impressed with how close
you could focus, or how the “bokeh” (blurred background) turned out. With an
f/2.8 aperture, your plane of focus could be measured in millimeters, or
expanded to include the entire field of view with the unique f/32 smallest
aperture setting this lens has. The minimum focusing distance is only 20 cm, or
less than 8”. Now that’s close!
The lens
incorporates a nice distance scale as well as a magnification scale from 1:1 to
1:9 on the telescoping shaft of the lens. The front face has a 55mm filter
thread.
