Vol 3: CAPRIS

This third volume of Collector's Guides devoted to the sporting models produced by Ford's European factories concentrates on the cars which to a considerable extent were inspired by the immense success of the American-produced Mustang, but which nevertheless were to develop into much more than a European version of Detroit's first 'ponycar'.

Jeremy Walton, whose personal experience of Capris over many years extended to ownership of some of the most desirable models, the testing of the majority of the remainder and race experience of some of the most exciting variants, takes his readers through the complex marketing structure around which Ford have offered three generations of Capris, each with its own distinct character and with a comprehensive range of model options.

Understandably, he places major emphasis on the GT and 3-litre versions of the original design, with its familiar 'hockey stick' side body moulding, as well as the RS2600 and RS3100 derivatives, around which Ford's first serious competitions activities with the Capri were based. In his coverage of the intermediate Capri lI model, the sporting S models inevitably figure prominently, while of the third-generation cars, which have brought the Capri name through into the 1980s, the exciting 2.8 and Turbo models have justifiable pride of place in his manuscript as the most exciting production Capris of them all

As with all Collector's Guides, the author's text is supported by an extensive selection of illustrations and a series of comprehensive appendices recording data of particular use for anyone contemplating the acquisition and/or restoration of a Capri, a model which Ford introduced as 'The car you always promised yourself' - words which have since had special meaning amongst classic car enthusiasts.
