FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED

AN OFFICIAL TRIBUTE AND HISTORY OF THE ROYAL OBSERVER CORPS

HENRY BUCKTON

In 1991, the Royal Observer Corps was finally "stood down" by Her Majesty the Queen after 66 years of meritorious service.

This book is the first history of the Corps to be published since that momentous event and has been produced with the full cooperation of the Royal Observer Corps Association, thus creating as accurate a record of 66 years of invaluable contribution to Britain's defence as possible.

The Author, himself a member of the R.O.C.A. has been allowed access to unique archive material in the course of carrying out his research and many previously unpublished photographs have been included in this book.

High ranking officers from the RAF and leading politicians have joined together in contributing to the "tribute" section of this book which, in itself, gives testimony to the esteem in which the Royal Observer Corps was held throughout its long and dedicated service and the high regard in which it still remains.

Henry Buckton served with the Royal Observer Corps between 1983 and 1987 during which he was given the honour of representing his Post at the Royal Garden Party celebrating the Corp's Diamond Jubilee.

He remains an active member of No. 9 Group Royal Observer Corps Association and now serves with the Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

Henry has written many short stories for BBC Radio Bristol and has also published a book of childrens stories entitled "Somerset Sam".
