Beautiful Creamy White Alabaster Campana Vase
Drilled As A Lamp.
A wonderful hand turned flaring cup with carved gadroons and elegant, slim stem, on a square stepped base. Incredibly
smooth and tactile, the alabaster is translucent & crystalline with internal opaque striations and subtle fracture-
lines throughout, but none of the dark veins that often mar the purity of the shining white stone.
A shape of vase produced since ancient times and often imported as Grand Tour souvenirs.
This example probably dates to the early 20th century.
Such classic lamps are beloved by interior
designers for their versatility. The bulbs
placed inside, hidden from view, emit a lovely atmospheric glow through
the creamy stone as well as a soft gentle uplight.
Lovely condition. No evident
chips or damage.
