* I have recently been left a negative feedback (for using too much packaging). I want to address that feedback and explain myself, so hopefully people will want still buy from me.
The majority of padding that I use in packaging is reused (I keep a big box of items that I can use for padding). If I buy padding, I buy void fill made from recycled paper: 100% FSC recycled void fill.
I use ink to print the majority of labels (a few large letters, I handwrite). I use ink because I don't have access to a thermal printer and they are costly to buy.
On some of my items, I use some kraft (paper) colourful rainbow tape - my aim is to hopefully bring a smile to someone's face, obviously, not everyone will appreciate it, but if I will make a difference to someone's day I believe it's worth it. The tape is sustainability sourced according to the tape packaging and I have had buyers thank me for that.
Items sent in padded envelopes, will often have tape around the edges of the envelope - that is because I bought a large box of padded envelopes that are 'seconds' and the majority of the envelopes have an issue with the edge seal and I need to ensure that the envelope is structurally secure to go through the post. However, as soon as I find affordable paper tape with strong adhesive - I will switch completely to paper tape rather than plastic tape.
Being the seller, it is my responsibility for the item to arrive safety and as described. I would love to just put an item in an envelope (it would save me so much time) - but in the case where I received the negative feedback, I chose to use a large letter size card box. I want to do my best to ensure the item's safe arrival, while respecting the planet.
I personally believe I'm considerate, I post as quick as I can, many items are sent next-day, even though I have a 5-day despatch. I message buyers when their item has been sent to thank them for their purchase and let them know their item is on the way.
I also believe I am considerate to the environment. Yes, I may over-package (I'm a worrier and I want to ensure an item arrives safety) however, I use lots of recycled packaging. I collect boxes and card from the supermarket. Even the bubblewrap I use has been previously used. I don't drive, so many items I post are picked up by Royal Mail when they are already in my are.
