Stunning and very rare Marquetry (also known as pad cameo) decorated Art Nouveau glass cabinet plate by Lobmeyr art glass of Vienna, Austria. Has very distinctive Lobmeyr gilt 'star' roundle in centre. Produced in the extremely difficult and rare marquetry technique, where hot glass was applied and later carved when cooled, hence it was also known as 'pad cameo'. The 'pads' have been carved into tulips with foliage, and then the spaces inbetween have been engraved with floral sprays and inlaid with gilding (see pics 5 and 6). The edge has been scallop cut and gilded. Just absolute top quality, so such a shame about the chip and gilding loss!

Dimensions: 15.5 cms across

Condition: There is a chip on the edge of the plate (pics 1 and 4). Some of the gilding has been lost. Otherwise good.
