A very unusual, early, large sterling silver escutcheon decanter label with vine leaves and grapes and a plain raised border. The horns of the label are curved and may indicate a Newcastle label from the early 18th. century. This label has no visible wear to the detail. The incised name CLARET is finely done. The condition is crisp and the original figure of eight link chain is undamaged.  The label is of thin gauge and curved.
