Liverpool "I Zingari" Football League Player Medallion 1923-24 Season awarded to R. E. Spalton ( 9ct gold).

The Liverpool “I Zingari” League was an amateur Association Football competition based in the city of Liverpool UK and founded there in 1895. Its name means 'the gypsies' in dialecticised Italian, and “I Zingari" was also the name of both  English and Australian amateur cricket clubs.

The I Zingari League ran until 2006 when it merged with the Liverpool County Combination to form the new Liverpool County Premier League. It was at one time also a feeder to the North West Counties League including such teams as Liverpool Marine and Formby.( Courtesy Wikipedia.)

This gold player medallion was awarded to my late uncle Robert Edgar Spalton. He had been a WW1 veteran and German POW but his great passion was always soccer and so he had trialed as a professional for both Liverpool and Everton of the current UK Premier League. His family home was in Spellow Lane which is adjacent to Everton's Goodison Park Football Stadium. Although not accepted by either professional team, he continued to play  as an amateur. In his private life he became a successful Liverpool estate agent (realtor) and to me he was always my favourite “Uncle Bob". This medallion came from his estate, possibly a player merit award from the I Zingari league for his performance for his local club in that league's 1923-24 year.

It is inscribed as follows (see also detailed close up photos) :-

So a fine piece of Liverpool Soccer memorabilia with an interesting history. My relatively high starting price is to deter purchase as gold but I am happy to offer free insured and tracked worldwide  postage.

I will not be accepting offers as I want to give as many enthusiasts as possible of football in the City of Liverpool an opportunity to acquire this historic item.

The winning bidder must pay or make contact within 24 hours of the auction ending or the sale may be cancelled.
