This
auction is for an original Ferrari handbook supplement (Guia
Rápida) which
would have been destined for an owner, in the Portugal market (and possibly other Portuguese speaking),
of a 458 Italia as
an addition to the full standard handbook.
The 458 Italia, replacing the highly regarded F430, was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. A Spider version
followed in late 2011 but this book features information relating only to the
original Berlinetta version.
The
only transmission made available on the 458 range was the dual-clutch, 7-speed,
F1 paddle-shift, ‘Getrag’ gearbox. It was, therefore, the first mainstream Ferrari model without
the stick-shift gear change, not even
as an option.
The
numerical part of the 458 Italia
name refers to the car’s 4.5 litre
engine in V8 configuration, while
the Italia suffix was just a year too
early to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Italian
state, so the factory official line was that it was used because the car’s
design embodied all the flair and passion of the nation!
The
book, measuring 17.5cm x 9cm, opens
out concertina-fashion to 5 times this size allowing 8 small inner pages to hold the
information chosen by Ferrari from the main handbook. All of the text in this version is in Portuguese only.
This,
as the name conveys, is a shortened version of the full handbook bringing
together the instructions covering the main controls and functions of the car
but supplements the full handbook rather than, in any way, replacing it.
The factory catalogue number on the rear
‘cover’ reads Catálogo
no 3598/09 - 1a edição Dezembro de 2009, but with no specific print quantity quoted.
