An exquisite group of four miniature Taghkanic nesting baskets. Taghkanic baskets were crafted by a group of families in the lower portion of Columbia County in New York State beginning in the 1800’s. The reference book, “Legend of the Bushwhacker Baskets” by Wetherbee and Taylor, 1986, details the history of these fine crafted items. Liz Proper was the last to craft these baskets, harvesting the splints from ash trees and hand weaving each one. Ms. Proper, wove these for me in the 1980’s before her passing in the 1990’s . When she passed the fine craftsmanship of Taghkanic baskets came to an end as well. This set of four baskets range in size from 2*+” in diameter to approximately 5”. The craftsmanship is superb with the intricate double weave around the rim and the hand carved handles. We have proudly displayed these for the past four decades and are ready to pass them on to their next steward who will enjoy them for years to come. A flat $25 will be added to the final bid for secured packing. Shipping and insurance. Please ask any questions.
